The Ghost Rockets were a wave of mysterious aerial sightings that gripped Scandinavia, particularly Sweden, Norway, and Finland, starting in early 1946. These sightings were characterized by reports of rocket- or missile-shaped objects, which moved at extraordinary speeds, made sharp turns, and often performed maneuvers that were beyond the capabilities of known aircraft at the time. The phenomenon officially began on February 26, 1946, when Finnish observers reported seeing the first of these enigmatic objects.
As reports of these ghostly rockets spread across the region, the sightings became more frequent and widespread, peaking in activity during August 1946. Eyewitnesses described the objects as elongated, metallic, and sometimes emitting a trail or glow. These objects flew silently and often appeared in formations, further mystifying both the public and military authorities. By the end of 1946, over 2,000 sightings had been recorded, making it one of the largest UFO flaps in history.
The Swedish military, along with other authorities, conducted thorough investigations into the Ghost Rockets, including radar tracking and attempts to recover physical evidence. In some cases, physical fragments were retrieved, but they did not provide conclusive information about the origins or nature of the objects. Various theories were proposed, including secret military tests by foreign powers and natural phenomena, but no satisfactory explanation emerged.
