On Saturday, August 7, 1869, a curious phenomenon took place near the village of Adamstown. At around midday, while the villagers were having their lunch, a luminous body appeared and settled near the center of an open lot located about two hundred yards north of the village. Several witnesses from different vantage points observed this occurrence.
According to the descriptions, the luminous object assumed a square shape and shot up into a column about three to four feet in height and approximately two feet in thickness. Under the bright sunlight, it glittered intensely, resembling a column of burnished silver. The villagers were amazed by the sight, and the object's presence, after reaching its peak brightness, began to gradually fade away. Within about ten minutes, the phenomenon had completely disappeared.
After the event, some villagers inspected the spot where the luminous body had appeared, but they found nothing unusual. There was speculation about the nature of the phenomenon, with some suggesting it might be related to natural occurrences like the "Jack o' Lantern", an atmospheric ghost light often seen by travelers at night.
This unusual and brief event left a lasting impression on the witnesses, who were left to wonder about the true nature of what they had seen.
