The Tully Saucer Nest Incident is a famous UFO encounter that took place on January 19, 1966, near Tully, Queensland, Australia. The event was reported by George Pedley, a local banana farmer who was driving his tractor near Horseshoe Lagoon on his property.
As Pedley worked, he heard a loud, hissing sound and saw a blue-grey, saucer-shaped object rise vertically from the lagoon. The object was approximately 25 feet across and 9 feet high, spinning rapidly as it ascended to about 60 feet. It then made a shallow dive before climbing sharply again, eventually speeding off at an incredible rate in a south-westerly direction.
Curious and bewildered by what he had witnessed, Pedley investigated the area where the object had risen. To his amazement, he found a circular, flattened area of reeds and grass, about 32 feet in diameter, where the vegetation was swirled clockwise and compressed into a smooth, nest-like formation. There were no signs of life or any conventional explanation for the strange markings.
Pedley reported the incident to the local authorities, and it quickly gained significant media attention, becoming one of the most well-known UFO sightings in Australia. The discovery of the "saucer nest" sparked various theories and speculations, with some suggesting natural explanations like whirlwinds or water spouts, while others believed it to be evidence of an extraterrestrial landing.
Despite investigations by scientists and UFO researchers, no definitive explanation for the sighting or the formation of the saucer nest has been provided. The Tully Saucer Nest Incident remains an enduring mystery and a prominent case in UFO lore, often cited as a classic example of a potential UFO landing.
